Permanent Makeup

PMU: Permanent Makeup

Permanent makeup is a cosmetic technique which employs tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eye-lining and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips, and eyes.

PMU: Permanent Makeup

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation, cosmetic tattooing, and intradermal pigmentation, is a revolutionary cosmetic technique. It is achieved by inserting colored natural pigments into the dermal layer of the skin. The procedure uses a very fine needle that makes hundreds of tiny perforations per minute. It produces articulate designs that resemble makeup which is commonly done on lips, eyelids, and eyebrows. The amount of time required for each procedure varies depending on its complexity. Qualified technicians use a topical anesthetic to numb the area being tattooed. At first, the color will appear brighter or darker, but over time, it will fade. The area will be swollen approximately 2-5 days and crust will form before healing just like a normal tattoo.

PMU for Lips

This procedure is done for those who want to have more defined lips or want to add some color on their lips. As people age, one will lose pigment around their lips causing unnatural spots. Permanent lip makeup compensates for the pigmentation loss and colors the lips with more luscious and natural shade.

Things to Remember Before Treatment:

  1. Let the technician know if you have undergone a lip surgery (e.g. lip filler) or botox before. The technician may advise giving some more time from the surgery before having permanent makeup.
  2. Inform the technician if you’re experiencing lip sores as this may affect the procedure. You may be required to take some antiviral medication before having the lip permanent makeup procedure.
  3. It’s best to let your technician know if you have any oral prosthesis such as full/partial dentures, braces or tongue piercings.
  4. No alcohol or caffeine intake 24 hours before the procedure. Also, no aspirin and blood-thinning medication 5 days prior to the procedure.
  5. No injections of Novocaine should be done 10 days before your lip treatment procedure. Let your technician know if you’ve had any injections for the past few days and months.

After-Care:

  1. Ice packs may be applied for 10-15 minutes each hour for the first 4-8 hours. The ice is used to reduce the swelling and to provide comfort.
  2. Avoid soap, cleanser, and shampoo in the treated area for at least 7 days. This also includes toothpaste and mouthwash, so please proceed with caution.
  3. Apply A & D ointment on the affected area with Q-tip within 24 hours.
  4. Do NOT remove the crusty part of the lip. This is a normal process of healing. If removed, it will affect the outcome of the pigmentation of the lip.
  5. Exposure to the sun is highly discouraged. Also, avoid swimming in pools and beaches for 2 weeks.

PMU for Brows

The permanent eyebrow is totally different from microblading. The former uses tattoo dyes to fill in a dimensional brow shape and any sparse spots. These procedures are commonly done to those who lost their hair due to old age or disease, such as alopecia totalis or chemotherapy.

Things to Remember Before Treatment:

  1. Avoid tweezing, waxing or dyeing brows 2 days prior to the procedure.
  2. Also, avoid having electrolysis or laser hair removal at least 5 days before having the permanent eyebrow makeup. This precaution prevents surface irritation or under the skin inflammation on the day of the procedure. To be extra cautious, avoid hair removal for 2 weeks.

After-Care:

  1. Schedule Botox appointments 2 weeks to 2 months after the permanent eyebrow makeup procedure to reduce the chance of infection
  2. Do not tweeze, wax or dye brows for 2 weeks on the tattooed area.
  3. Do not touch the tattooed area with your unwashed or unclean fingers because this will increase the risk of infection.
  4. Do not scrub or scratch the tattooed area since this will affect the color outcome of the permanent eyebrow makeup
  5. If you experience swelling, you can apply an ice pack on the swollen area.
  6. Do not apply makeup or mascara on the tattooed area within a week after treatment.
  7. Do not use makeup remover, creams, and cleansers on your eyes and eyebrow area. You can wash these areas gently with tepid water. Make sure that your hands are clean when washing your face!
  8. Avoid hot tubs and pools for 2 weeks.

PMU: Eyeliner

This procedure enhances the shape and natural beauty of the eyes. It is best for those busy people who want to save time getting ready, or for those who have a hard time putting on eyeliner but love the look. This also reduces the stretching of the skin on your eyelid due to the eyeliner application.

Things to Remember Before Treatment:

  1. Do not wear contact lenses during the procedure. If you must wear them, please bring any contact solution and case that you will need. They must be removed prior to the procedure.
  2. Before the procedure, do not dye, curl or perm your lashes for at least 2 days.
  3. Stop the use of eyelash growing serum like Latisse, RevitaLash, or Grande Lash 2 months before the procedure.
  4. It’s best to let your technician know if you’ve had eye surgery done. This includes LASIK and cataracts.

After-Care:

  1. Do not wear contact lenses for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
  2. It’s best to wear sunglasses after the procedure to avoid sun exposure as this may be uncomfortable around the treated area.
  3. Do not dye, curl or perm the eyelashes for 2 weeks after the procedure.
  4. Do not use mascara until the area is healed. This may take 3-5 days.
  5. Lubricating refresher drops can be used to relieve swollen, dry and irritated eyes.

PMU: Eyelash Enhancement

What is permanent lash enhancement?

Whether you call it Lash Enhancement or Invisible Eyeliner, it consists of an ultra-thin black line along the top eyelash line which is tattooed from eyelash to eyelash that creates the illusion of a more natural, fuller, thicker look of your eyelashes without looking like obvious makeup.

What is the difference between Permanent Lash Enhancement and Permanent Eyeliner?

Lash line enhancement subtly adds definition and color to your lash line to create the appearance of thicker lashes. Permanent eyeliner can vary from a medium line along the lash line to enhance and widen your eye and give a more awake appearance, to a bolder thicker line to make your eyes 'pop'.
